Guy Lawson has sold Fitzroy’s Napier Hotel after nearly 30 years.

The buyer is another operator, Baxter Pickard, also behind enoteca Wally’s Albert Park and founder of wine delivery company, Grapeful.

The freehold going concern deal is speculated to be worth $10 million.

The property won’t be majorly updated.

JLL’s Will Connolly was the agent.

Next chapter for the Napier

Mr Lawson took over the Napier Hotel operation in 1996.

Carlton & United Breweries developed the Napier Hotel in 1916.

The freehold – 210 Napier Street, diagonally adjacent to Fitzroy Town Hall – last sold in 1998, for $660,000.

Developed in 1916 by Carlton & United Breweries, penned by Sydney Smith and Ogg, the property replaced another on the site completed in 1866.

Over two levels it contains separate bars and dining rooms.

There is however no gaming.

Mr Lawson previously operated the suburb’s St Andrews Hotel, on Nicholson Street, at the Carlton border, and Richmond’s Great Britain.
