Metricon beats Henley, Simonds, for top spot

Metricon has again finished the financial year as Victoria’s largest home builder, with 1,475 starts.

Henley Properties followed (1,248), with Simonds coming in third (1030).

Overall, constructed started  on 39,100 houses during the 2006/07 year.

Builders aren’t making the profits they used to though – supply costs a labour shortage said to be squeezing margins.

“This is of concern and reflects the move towards building smaller, more affordable homes,” HIA executive director Glenn Evans added.
