Melbourne Uni lists historic Cumnock mansion

Cumnock is expected to sell for over $8 million.

The University of Melbourne is selling Parkville’s historic Cumnock after seven years.

The University of Melbourne bought Cumnock in 2018.

On 1376 square metres at 160-162 The Avenue, the two level, four bedroom Italianate mansion, penned by Charles Webb, carries $7.9-$8.7 million price hopes.

The college paid $7.1m.

That buyer, picked it up in 2009 from Drapac, which had over the previous two years replaced land around it with townhouses.

Prior to 2007, the Cumnock parcel, also fronting Walker Street and Mile Lane, spread 5000 sqm and was held by the Anglican Church, operating as Ridley College.

Next chapter for historic mansion

Drapac paid the church $9m for the Parkville block in 2007.

Cumnock contains four bedrooms on a 1376 square metre site.

It marketed the townhouses from $1.5m.

It also fully renovated Cumnock before selling.

The university maintained the home for a former Vice Chancellor, then for school functions.

The listing comes six months after the school confirmed it would repay over $70m for staff, underpaid from 2014.

Mr Webb also designed the Windsor Hotel in town, Mandeville Hall at Toorak and South Melbourne’s Town Hall.
