Building boss sells Brisbane home for record price

The Ascot home prior to a c$7 million renovation.

BWC Group founder and managing director Brett Walker has quietly sold his family home after three years and a major renovation.

The $23 million result for 32 Sutherland Avenue, Ascot, sets a record for a Brisbane residence.

The Sutherland Avenue site spreads 3035 square metres.

Mr Walker paid Ray White Group chairman Ray White and his wife, Rosemary, $10m, in mid-2021.

The subsequent refurbishment cost c$7m.

The deal breaks the $20.5m record watermark set in April, 2023, when Amity House at 101 Welsby St, Newfarm, traded for $20.5m to mining executive, MP2 Engineering founder, Adam Beswick.

In late 2022, meanwhile, Atlassian co-founder Scott Farquhar and his wife, investment banker, Kim Jackson, outlaid $130m – a record Sydney price – for Point Piper’s Uig Lodge.

That sale followed Stake.com founder Ed Craven outlaying just over $80m for a Toorak dwelling – setting a Melbourne watermark.

Ascot is about six kilometres north east of the CBD (story continues below).

Another record breaker

On 3035 sqm, 32 Sutherland Avenue is configured with a tennis court, 12.5 metre swimming pool and cricket pitch.

A single level Queenslander contains four bedrooms, a study, office and formal and informal living and dining rooms.

Ray White’s Damo represented Mr Walker. Cohen Handler’s Jordan Navybox acted for the buyer.

BWC was formed in 1990.
