Melbourne Planning Landscape Changed Forever Because of Melbourne 2030 Policy
The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal is now expected to decide the fate of the proposal at the high-profile junction of Warrigal and Balcombe roads and Nepean Highway, which would likely have been supported under the former planning strategy which was introduced in 2001 (aerial view of Melbourne CBD and Docklands from that time, pictured above).
Meanwhile, in Northcote, seven kilometres north of town, developers are rebuilding the Northcote Bowl site at the north-east corner of Victoria Road and Separation Street.
That proposal, which was rejected by the Darebin City Council, but approved in 2009 after government intervention, will rise five levels and include more than 90 dwellings. Upon obtaining the permit, the former owner sold the site to another developer for $6.7 million earlier this year.
