McDonald’s set to develop prominent Ringwood site

McDonald’s is looking to replace part of a prominent former Patterson Cheney car dealership at 43 – 57 Maroondah Highway, Ringwood, with a 24-hour restaurant.

The fast food chain outlaid c$15 million for the 1.638 hectare site, near the Maroondah Highway exit of Eastlink, almost a year ago.

It is expected to subdivide and sell-down unused portions to developers, likely for offices or shops, including other eateries.

A Maroondah City Council representative said just one objection was received for the McDonald’s proposal.

A decision is expected this month.

McDonald’s said the restaurant will include a large play area and outside terrace.

“As a major centre that is undergoing significant development and investment, Ringwood will be an increasingly vibrant centre and an ideal location for a new McDonald’s restaurant,” its corporate communications manager, Amy McNaughton, told Capital Gain.

The store would employ about 80 people, she added.
