Jonathan Downey’s Match Bar Opens at QV, Melbourne
Mr Downey, the owner of a micro brewery and publishing company and eight Match Bars in London, New York and Ibiza, will launch the 518 sq m bar on an upper level of QV, off Little Lonsdale Street.
The bar will include a selfserve wine area, where 30 wines are available via four "eight-bottle" enomatic wine samplers at the push of a button. It will also include a high-end restaurant, signature cocktail drinks and plush lounge areas.
Match Bar has taken a 10-year lease at QV and is licensed to seat between 250 and 300 people.
Downey’s Milk & Honey bar in London recently won Australian Bartenders’ "Best Bar in the World" award for the second year in a row. Mr Downey also owns a boutique hotel in the French Alps. He is also expected to open a wine house in London.
QV marketing manager Martine Creswick said the vision was for QV to become one of the great bar and dining destinations in Melbourne.
