James Packer spends $82 million on LA mansion once owned by Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman

The Holmby Hills home was occupied for 21 years by Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman.

James Packer – or as he is being reported by some overseas news outlets, “Mariah Carey’s ex” – has spent $82 million ($US59.95 million) on a renovated mansion in Los Angeles’ exclusive Holmby Hills community.

The 51-year old businessman is understood to have moved into the house more than a month ago after deciding to buy in LA, where his ex-wife and children live, at the end of June.

On a 2694 square metre block, Mr Packer’s new home includes seven bedrooms, a beauty salon, home theatre, cigar room, wine room and eight car garage.

A beauty salon within the mansion.

It was owned for 21 years until 2015 by actors Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman, who separated in 2017.

DeVito and Perlman sold it for $38 million ($US29 million) to the current vendors, property developers Stuart and Stephanie Linder, who renovated it and subdivided a section of the block off to build another home.

Mr Packer paid substantially less than the $117 million price ($US85 million) being asked for the home which was mooted for sale by website mansionglobal.com in May.

News of the acquisition comes a month after Mr Packer banked $29 million selling a four-level home on Bondi Beach to property investors Roy and Anthony Medich.

In 2015, he and his former partner, Erica Baxter, sold their Guildford Bell designed mansion La Mer, in Vaucluse, for $70 million, after extending and renovating it.

Mr Packer, who has been living in LA for the last few years, resigned from the board of his family’s Consolidated Press Holdings last month. He also stood down from Crown Resorts board in March.

The estate includes seven bedrooms and eight car garage and swimming pool.
