Ita Buttrose sells Southern Highlands getaway

The Oxford Street dwelling is believed to be selling for $1.4 million.

Veteran media personality Ita Buttrose has sold a Southern Highlands getaway after a week on the market.

Midnight Oil lead singer Peter Garrett sold Mittagong’s Rowe in 2016.

At 5 Oxford Street, Mittagong, opposite the historic Turner Cottage, part of private school, Frensham, the single level brick home is believed to be trading for $1.4 million.

The vendor picked it up in May, 2010, for $510,000 – a discount on the ($530,000) asking price.

Susie Embleton, of the Mittagong-based eponymous agency, brokered the latest deal.

The dwelling is about four kilometres from the landmark Queen Anne Federation cottage Rowe, on 5.8 hectares, which Midnight Oil lead singer and former ALP minister Peter Garrett and his wife, Doris, sold for $2.95m in 2016 after 19 years.

5 Oxford Street

On 756 square metres behind a hedge fence, 5 Oxford St is less than a kilometre to the town centre and even closer to the train station (story continues below).

Ita Buttrose was Dementia Australia president between 2011-2014.

The 173 sqm dwelling contains four bedrooms, two bathrooms and formal and informal dining rooms – one which opens to an alfresco area.

A large lounge centres around an open fire place.

There is also a double garage.

Ms Buttrose renovated the kitchen and bathroom.

The philanthropist and 2013 Australian of the Year – who almost three years to the day was appointed ABC Chairperson – retains a Sydney apartment at Redfern.
