InterContinental Hotel Group’s new and high-end voco brand leases Melbourne CBD building

InterContinental Hotel Group has made another property play in Melbourne, committing to a 252-room hotel in the city, set to be constructed by 2020.

The inn will be built into the 380 Melbourne residential tower (artist’s impression, top) which local developer Brady Group is building at 380 Lonsdale Street.

IHG’s new and high-end voco brand will operate the hotel to be called Melbourne Central, according to this item in The Australian reported yesterday.

IHG’s commitment comes less than a week after we reported it is leasing part of an apartment tower in Ringwood, in Melbourne’s east, for its Holiday Inn and Suites division.

Abhijay Sandilya, senior director of development for IHG Australasia, told The Australian Melbourne was a global city needing more hotels.

“There is supply coming, but we have a really strong belief in Melbourne’s fundamentals,” Mr Sandilya added.

Yoco’s Melbourne Central will offer a pool, gym, meeting room, restaurant and bar.
