Retired AFL sportsman Greg ‘Diesel’ Williams has sold his landmark Essendon home.

Ardoch Tower (pictured top and left) on Brewster Street, adjacent to the Windy Hill stadium, was only listed for sale late last month.

On a 2454 square metre block, also with frontage to Ardoch Street, the renovated Italianate home includes a tower offering 360 degree views.

Williams configured what was once a ballroom of the house into an open plan informal living and meals area. The home also offers a formal lounge and dining room, five bedrooms, three bathrooms, wine cellar and parking for eight cars.

Four metre high ceilings are said to have been painted by an artist who died on the Titanic.

Nelson Alexander’s Paul Harrison and Milo Rasinac marketed the home which also includes a tennis court, swimming pool, several entertaining areas and a large front garden.

The footballer, who played for Carlton, Sydney and Geelong, paid $3.1 million for this house in 2004. He upgraded from another historic home in nearby Riverview Road, which is considered the suburb’s best street.

The sale price of Williams’ Brewster Street home is the second highest for the suburb. In May, McDonald Upton’s Simon Cookson sold a home at 41 Leslie Street for about $8 million.

In the neighbouring suburb of Moonee Ponds, a historic home at 36 Ardmillan Road sold earlier this year for more than $10.5 million, setting a record for that suburb. The off-market deal for this home was negotiated by McDonald Upton’s Joe Zucco.
