Government Appoints Baulderstone to Undertake $128.5 Million Hamer Hall Renovation, Melbourne

Mr Pallas said seven companies tendered for the project, which will start in mid 2010.

The project is unusual in that it’s only the second time a project alliance has been used for public building in Australia, a government spokesman said.  The only other building to be developed in this way is Canberra’s National Museum.

A project alliance is a construction delivery method whereby a partnership including the builder, architect and project manager share risk and reward equally. The alliance has an agreed set of goals, including sticking to budget and delivering projects on time. If these performance measures are met, bonuses are paid.

Arts and cultural facilities in and around Southbank attract more than 3.5 million patrons each year, the government said.
