German social club sells landmark Melbourne site

The permitted six level apartment project.

German association Club Tivoli-Deutscher Verain – Victoria’s oldest ethnic club – has sold its inner-city Melbourne base of 36 years.

The community social group is reaping about $16-$18 million, sources say – just below the ($18m) guide when it hit the market last month – for 291-295 Dandenong Road, also facing Closeburn Avenue and Chomley Street, Prahran.

Offered permit ready for a six level residential project with 59 dwellings and basement car parking, the 3085 square metre site is selling to an as yet undisclosed developer.

Club Tivoli was established in 1860 (story continues below).

The site spreads 3085 square metres with three street frontages.

It was represented for the sale by Colliers’ Jozef Dickinson, Alex Browne and Philip Heberling with Knight Frank’s Stephen Kelly, Tom Ryan and Nick Bisset.

This pocket of Prahran, near Windsor, is about six kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD.
