City of Greater Bendigo Submits Project List to Federal Government

Mayor of Greater Bendigo Cr Kevin Gibbins said Council has developed a list of 21 projects from a diverse number of locations throughout Greater Bendigo that it would like to complete with the bonus one off funding.

“The Federal Government is providing the funding for additional, ready to proceed, community infrastructure projects and for further stages of projects that are already underway.  Council has moved quickly on this because as part of the funding agreement all projects must be completed by September 30, 2009.”

He said the Council intends to submit the following projects to the Federal Government to finalise the funding agreement:-
• Erection of new pavilion with disabled access at Bagshot Recreation Reserve ($90,000)
• Sealing of carpark and Entrance at Harry Trott Reserve Kennington ($267,800)
• Upgrade of Heathcote Swimming Pool ($60,000)
• Upgrade of Elmore Swimming Pool ($95,460)
• Upgrade of Goornong Swimming pool ($64,800)
• Extension of O’Keefe Rail Trail to Axedale township and River Reserve ($64,800)
• Building works to link long day care and occasional care at Annie Galvin Child Care Centre Bendigo ($183,600)
• Additional shade structures within play areas at Pre Schools in Kangaroo Flat and Kennington ($55,000)
• Kitchen upgrade/Hall fit out at Raywood Hall ($97,200)
• Refurbishment and upgrade of North Bendigo Club Rooms and Changerooms ($97,200)
• Indigenous tree planting at Huntly, Strathfieldsaye and Myers Creek to offset road and Council project works ($95,000)
• Installation of showers at Discovery Centre to make it the only overnight science camp in Australia for school groups ($216,000)
• Sealing of three tennis courts at Knowsley Tennis Club ($37,800)
• Construction of shade shelter at Lockwood South Reserve ($30,000)
• Resurfacing of three tennis courts at Redesdale Tennis Club ($30,000)
• Upgrade of building facilities at Dower Park Kangaroo Flat ($90,000)
• Upgrade of playground at Canterbury Park Eaglehawk($60,000)
• Construction of BBQ, picnic tables, shade structure and paving at  Village Green Reserve Epsom ($47,520)
• New playground at Harvard & Strickland Road Reserve ($30,000)
• Construction of  new gate keepers box and installation of netting behind goal posts at new Strathfieldsaye Recreation Reserve ($57,520)
• New footpath and tree planting in Victoria Street between Crowther and Upper California Gully Road Eaglehawk ($129,600)

He said projects were selected because they would benefit many people and local communities throughout Greater Bendigo.

“The projects are a good mix that will greatly enhance and improve local sporting and recreational facilities such as playgrounds and walking trails and other facilities and can be readily completed in the timeframe set by the Federal Government.”

“Most of the projects also have a high labour content and are expected to create work for mainly local contractors,” said Cr Gibbins.
