Cbus Property, Nielson Properties, shortlist global architects for $600 million Brisbane CBD office

Cbus Property and Nielson Properties have shortlisted four teams of global architects to design the $600 million 205 North Quay office in the Brisbane CBD.

They are:

  • Hassell, Rex (which is based New York) and Richards & Spence;
  • Cox Architecture, SOM (Chicago) and Rapt Studio;
  • BVN and SHoP Architects (New York); and
  • Architectus and WOHA (Singapore).

The architects have been appointed to create a concept design for a 50,000 square metre office.

The 3000 sqm site for which it is earmarked (highlighted in image, top) incorporates 205 North Quay and an adjoining property, 30 Herschel Street.

An A-grade, environmentally-friendly tower must exploit the site’s position, opposite Brisbane River and transform the CBD precinct, a statement from the property owners said.

Elsewhere in Brisbane, Cbus Property completed construction of a 46-storey office at 1 William Street (centre) in 2016.

Cbus Property and Nielson Properties only announced their intention to co-develop the site in June.

“Brisbane is a new world city and we plan to partner with the world’s best architects,” Cbus Property chief executive officer Adrian Pozzo said.

“The site provides an unrivalled opportunity to establish the innovative workplace of the future and create a new commercial building of inspiring architecture that will represent the new world of work.

“The strong interest from the architects both locally and internationally has been driven by Cbus Property’s track record, the site’s significant riverfront location, and Brisbane as an emerging global city.

The proposed commercial building will form part of a new precinct, the North Quarter, which is taking shape via new office and apartment buildings and the new Roma Street Station, Brisbane Metro, Cross River Rail and Brisbane Live.

North Quarter contains a W Hotel at 81 North Quay.

Other major buildings under construction or recently completed in North Quarter include an office at 80 Ann Street, a mixed-use complex with three towers at 300 George Street and the W Hotel at 81 North Quay.

Cbus Property and Nielson Properties are expected to choose an architect for 205 North Quay next month.

Construction is scheduled for completion in 2023, they added.

Elsewhere in Brisbane, Cbus Property recently completed a 46-storey office at 1 William Street which is leased to the Queensland government.
