Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney turning property developer
The Polding Centre in the Sydney CBD could be replaced with a 61-storey apartment building atop an eight-level podium if plans submitted by the owner, the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, are approved.
It is reported the church may sell the site, which includes a 1977 building it occupies (pictured, top), if permission for the 234-metre tall tower is granted.
The Archdiocese told The Australian, which first reported the application, that it “does not have confirmed intentions for the site beyond seeking Stage 1 development approval and is exploring future options”.
The application doesn’t include “an architectural design”, it added, but rather is an indicative scheme which would “provide rationale for a future application”.
Developers in the vicinity of the Archdiocese holding at 133-141 Liverpool Street include Mirvac and Coombes Property, which it has been widely reported are permitted to build an 80-storey, 260-metre tall building, on the site of the Event Cinemas at 505-523 George Street.
