Brisbane storage giant doubles down in Melbourne’s leafy east

The 315-317 Canterbury block (outlined) previously traded in 2015.

National Storage has bought a block neighbouring a major near-new facility in Melbourne’s leafy east.

The National Storage at 319-329 Canterbury Road will be extended.

The Brisbane based buyer snared the 2948 square metre Commercial 2 zoned tract, 315-317 Canterbury Road, Canterbury, for a speculated $16.5 million following an off-market campaign.

Seller Jinshan Asset Investments outlaid $6.47m in 2015.

Prior to that, the land was owned separately by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Australia and Fort Knox, another self-storage provider.

Canterbury, one of Melbourne’s more exclusive suburbs, is about 11 kilometres from the CBD.

Storage giant expands in Canterbury

National Storage paid $23.485m in 2019 for the 2864 sqm property next door – 319-329 Canterbury Rd – which now accommodates a 5900 sqm multi-level complex (story continues below).

It is expected to extend into #315-317.

Savills’ Julian Heatherich and Benson Zhou were the agents.

The deal comes a year since rival Kennards outlaid $5.23m for three properties abutting an Abbotsford facility.

Also in that suburb, in 2023, Carl Sachs, a private operator in this sector, bought the old Kodak headquarters with plans to extend it for a c10,400 sqm facility.
