Bayles, Menzies Families to Sell Nagambie Estates

Under a previous owner, thoroughbred trainer James Readfern, two Melbourne Cup winners were bred or trained at Chatsworth Park including Malvolio, winner of the 1891 Cup, which is buried on site.

Amanda Elliott (nee Bayles), a VRC Committee member and ex wife of outspoken former Carlton Football Club president John Elliott, is one of the four beneficiaries selling Chatsworth Park.

The estate is expected to fetch about $10 million as a whole, or a smaller amount, if any of the three portions are sold separately.

Conjunctional agents Pat Rice & Hawkins Peter Hawkins and Elders Real Estate’s Shane McIntyre will auction Chatsworth Park, which is subdivided into 24 main paddocks, at 2pm on November 17.

Also hitting the market in the Nagambie area this week is the Noorilim Estate and vineyard. That property, being sold by Melbourne businessman Rod Menzies, is expected to fetch about $15 million.

Like Chatsworth Park, Noorilim Estate has frontage to the Goulburn River.
