Atari HQ set for luxury business, leisure and storage complex
Oakleigh’s ex-Atari headquarters is set to be replaced with a luxury business, leisure and storage development – with units 30 per cent sold out.
The facility will be the fifth and biggest yet for Sector Property Group’s The Base brand, which was established in 2016.
It will also be the first in the south-east.
Sector Property Group acquired the Centre Road property last year from Glasskote, which occupied it as a showroom.
Atari was one of the world’s biggest console game makers in the 1980s.
The Base Oakleigh
Over three levels, all with drive around access, The Base Oakleigh will contain more than 100 units, each with five metre ceilings, ample parking and access to luxurious common amenities.
The ground floor ones are comparable in size to three or four bedroom apartments – between 76-131 square metres.
The bulk of the upper storey units, meanwhile, are 45-63 sqm.
The top two levels each also contain a super-sized shell – spreading 155 sqm or 14 square.
The Base Oakleigh will also include a car charging station, high speed internet, toilet and shower facilities and security, with CCTV and fob and keypad entry.

Mancaves, she-sheds
While known to date back centuries, the mancave and she-shed concept increased in popularity since John Gray referenced it in 1992 bestseller Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.
Sector Property Group development manager, Toby Dunwell, said these leisure-focused private buyers are amongst its clients.
Units get fit-out for, amongst other things, gyms, workshops – or in some cases, sports bars and wine lounges, with TV, internet and stereo – for entertaining or networking.
Some buyers also use the facility to store prized possessions like motor vehicles and bikes.
During COVID, Mr Dunwell added, with people working and studying at home – families were amongst the key buyers, seeking traditional storage.
Post-pandemic, with record employment and a skills shortage, small businesses especially those in the ecommerce sector have been looking in for storage and distribution, or as a meeting-base, office or showroom.
Mr Dunwell said The Base Oakleigh address – in Melbourne’s sand belt, with six local golf courses – is 15 minutes from the beach.
