Ansett Office Opens as Residential and Retail Mecca

At a gala cocktail party opening held last week, Lord Mayor John So officially launched Northern Gateway, the new name for the precinct opposite the City Baths and bound by Swanston, Victoria and Franklin Streets.

Where once stood an ageing office building – there are now two high rise apartment towers including the 46-level Verve 501 tower – the tallest residential building in the CBD, and the 36-storey Milano tower.

Australia’s tallest indoor rock climbing wall, visible to outside traffic, is also part of the development.

Managing director for developer PDG Corporation, Vince Giuliano, said the opening party was a way of thanking everyone involved in “the creation of this community” and to welcome new residents and tenants to their neighbourhood.
