Amazon – the world’s biggest online retailer – has opened a new bricks-and-mortar store.

Amazon 4-star sells products rated 4-stars and above on its website.

Top sellers, and products which are new or trending, are also being offered in the physical store which opened last week at 72 Spring Street in New York City’s SoHo district.

The outlet also includes sections such as Most-Wished-For – containing products which are most added to amazon.com wish lists.

Trending Around NYC, Frequently Bought Together, and Amazon Exclusives, will also be on display, according to this blog post made by the retailer four days ago.

In recent years, Amazon has opened other physical stores including bookshops. In mid-2017 it paid $US13.7 billion ($A19 billion) for the Whole Foods business, which trades from outlets.

Amazon has also recently been rolling out cashier-less convenience stores (according to this CNBC item, the retailer plans to have 3000 of these shops in the US by 2020) and pop-up-stores, including one last year in SoHo which sold Calvin Klein merchandise.

“We created Amazon 4-star to be a place where customers can discover products they will love. Amazon 4-star’s selection is a direct reflection of our customers – what they’re buying and what they’re loving” the company said in its announcement.

In July, 2017, we reported that Amazon chose a 24,000 square metre factory in Melbourne’s Dandenong South as its first Australian fulfilment centre. Several months later it secured a second site, measuring 43,000 sqm, within Goodman Group’s Centenary Distribution Centre in Sydney’s Moorebank.
