Amazon chooses site for 200,000 sqm distribution centre
Amazon has secured a strategic Sydney site to build one of the country’s biggest robotics-enabled fulfilment centres.
The US-based online retailer has agreed to acquire a 17.2-hectare block alongside Western Sydney International Airport, at Bradfield, from the Ingham family’s property business.
A 200,000 square metre distribution centre is planned according to planning reports.
It would rank among Australia’s largest assets of this type and expand Amazon’s logistics network across Sydney’s west, where the company has added fulfilment and delivery infrastructure in recent years.
The latest site forms part of the Ingham family’s 182ha landholding adjoining the new airport, which is being repositioned from its former poultry industry use into a master-planned industrial and logistics precinct.
“This land acquisition demonstrates Amazon Australia’s ongoing commitment to Western Sydney and the communities we serve,” Amazon Australia director of operations Wayne Angus said.
“Since 2018, we have invested almost $2 billion in the region, creating thousands of local jobs and building world-class infrastructure to better serve Australian customers,” according to the executive.
“Western Sydney continues to be a strategic priority for our operations, and we look forward to further contributing to the economic growth and development of this vibrant region.
“Amazon established its first Sydney fulfilment centre at Moorebank in 2018 before expanding into larger facilities at Kemps Creek, Horsley Park and Regents Park.
“A further fulfilment centre at Horsley Park is due to commence operations later this year, reflecting continued growth in the company’s Australian distribution network” (continues below).

Another 200,000 sqm distribution centre
The Ingham family retained the Bradfield estate after selling Australia’s largest poultry producer, Ingham’s Enterprises, in 2013
It has since repositioned the landholding for industrial development.
Aldi is a pre-committed business, for an 87,000 sqm complex.
Ingham & Co recently launched a campaign for a developer to co-deliver that project, expected to carry a c$1b end value.
Amazon’s Kemp Creek distribution centre (pictured, top), which opened in 2022, spans 200,000 sqm.
Woolworths also recently completed an asset about this size in Sydney’s Moorebank.
