AFL temporarily shifts HQ

Marvel Stadium is set for a $2.5 billion-plus redevelopment.

The AFL will temporarily relocate its headquarters while AFL House at Marvel Stadium undergoes redevelopment.

Richmond Football Club recently leased an office ahead of a Punt Road Oval revamp.

Staff are expected to move into the nearby Melbourne Quarter Tower at Docklands from late next year.

Lendlease is the landlord.

Colliers’ Tim Farley was the agent.

The deal comes two months since we reported the Brisbane Lions leased a prominent ground floor space opposite the stadium’s southern boundary.

Also in March, Salta was permitted to build a 37 level build to rent investment opposite the stadium’s north west tip.

AFL stays local

The temporary headquarters would maintain the AFL’s proximity to Marvel Stadium during the redevelopment phase, chief executive officer, Andrew Dillon, said.

“AFL House at Marvel Stadium has served the game incredibly well for many years, however the planned redevelopment of the precinct requires us to secure an alternative home that supports immediate operations,” according to the executive (continues below).

“To deliver that redevelopment effectively, we need to temporarily relocate our office operations,” he added.

“The Melbourne Quarter Tower offers a centrally located workplace that reflects the importance of our people, our partners, our clubs and our connection to the city.

“It will be base for all our clubs and stakeholders to be able to visit and work, all while remaining in close proximity to Marvel Stadium”.

The AFL and Victorian government last year unveiled a staged $2.5-$3 billion overhaul of the broader Marvel Stadium precinct, with a higher density mixed use sports and events precinct containing commercial buildings, hotels, public space upgrades and expanded league facilities.

Due for staged completion from the early-2030s and including the former Channel Seven studios and harbour-facing land at 140 and 160 Harbour Esplanade, it was tendered in December with construction expected to start in the next 12-24 months.

The stadium will continue operating during the revamp.

The deal comes 15 months since we reported the Richmond Football Club leased a temporary office allowing the Punt Road Oval to be revamped.
