Castle adds another Melbourne pub to book

Also today we are reporting the Laundy family sold a NSW pub after a decade.

The five year old Mona Castle Group, previously known as Castle Group Hospitality, has added another inner city pub to its book.

The Spotswood Hotel sold in 2011 after a tax hike.

The Spotswood Hotel, also known as the Spottiswoode Hotel, at 62 Hudsons Road, recently reopened under new ownership.

Developed in 1855, a cellar and banquet room have been renovated.

The property previously traded for $2.335 million in 2011 after the then Brumby government substantially increased a licence fee – the asset deemed high risk because of a weekly 14 minute cabaret show.

Following that sale, it was expected to be fit out for a restaurant.

Castle builds portfolio

Castle is backed by Western Bulldog players past and present including Tom Liberatore, and directed by Lukas Webb, who played for six years until 2019.

The Mona Castle at Seddon also forms part of the company’s portfolio.

JLL’s Will Connolly brokered the off-market Spotswood Hotel deal.

Spotswood is seven kilometres west of Melbourne’s CBD.

Also today we are reporting the Laundy family sold a regional NSW hotel for $18m to Damian Kelly in a return to the sector after 24  months.
