Operator buys high profile bowling alley
Tenpin bowling operator General Public has snapped up an established Melbourne venue being marketed to developers.
The Zone Bowling Moorabbin on a 5447 square metre triangle shaped holding at 944-954 Nepean Highway and 9 Ewart Street, Moorabbin, collected $10.2 million.
The tenant is set to quit at the end of this year.
“This created a rare opportunity for immediate occupation on a high profile site with exceptional exposure to over 62,000 vehicles a day,” JLL’s Dominic McGrath, who brokered the deal for Merton Properties with Xander Yeo, said.
General Public boosts portfolio
The fifth Victorian bowling alley to be developed by Indoor Bowling Australia, according to the Victorian Heritage Council, Moorabbin Bowl, as it was known, opened in 1962 with 28 lanes (another, Northcote Bowl, pictured, below, was razed in 2010 for residential).
The facility was also the first business of its type to incorporate a pro shop.
The new owner will move in after a revamp.

“We’re thrilled to see this iconic site continue as an entertainment destination and look forward to witnessing General Public’s transformation of this Nepean Highway landmark,” Mr McGrath said.
Established by Harry Kourbeis seven years ago in Melbourne, General Public’s portfolio includes gaming arcades, golf simulators and pool halls – all also serving food.
Eight months ago it opened a Tenpin bowling based venue at Ipswich.
Moorabbin is about 16 kilometres from town.
