There may be hope yet for suburbs such as Doncaster, Avondale Heights or Rowville, which are exceptionally well located close to the city, but suffer a case of the “brick-veneer blues.”

Boutique commercial property designer and builder Danny Lao has undertaken one of the most extensive renovations of a 20+ year old home, in Templestowe, near the Green Gully Linear Park.

According to Philip Webb selling agent Andrew Keleher, the interior of the home was guttered and rebuilt to a “6-star hotel standard”, while the exterior was rendered in a grey, similar to those of many new homes built today.

“The house now looks totally new, inside and out.”

The agency is quoting between $900,000 and $990,000 for the property at 8 Mayo Close, which goes to auction at 12:30pm Sunday October 28.

According to Mr Keleher, this price compares to the average $550,000 to $600,000 most unrenovated original 1980s double-story homes in the area sells for.
