Church of Scientology to sell city HQ

The Church of Scientology will sell its CBD headquarters and relocate to Melbourne’s north west.

The religious group can expect c$8 million for its outgoing historic four-level building, on the corner of Russell Street and Flinders Lane, near the Grand Hyatt.

Landmark office 101 Collins St is also in the vicinity.

The Church recently paid $7m for the Sisters of Mercy College in Mount Alexander Road which it is restoring with plans to occupy this year.

It was unknown whether the organisation intended to retain the CBD headquarters; it famously listed it for public sale with DTZ two years ago before withdrawing it on auction day.

A Scientology spokesperson said it received offers but no sale was formalised.

It paid $720,000 in 1980.
