Site chosen for maiden Melbourne Wendy’s store
Flynn Restaurant Group, owner of fast-food chain Wendy’s, which announced earlier this year plans to trade in Australia, has chosen a convenience retail complex under construction in Bayswater North for its maiden Melbourne store.
The standalone tenancy within 154-156 Canterbury Road, on the north west corner of Dorset (and sometimes known as 624 Dorset Rd), is expected to open early next quarter.
A Guzman y Gomez sits beside it.
The $7 million proposal, replacing a car yard, will also contain a petrol station, four bay car wash and 53 parking bays.
Jasbe Petroleum, owned by Jason Be, is the developer and landlord.
Second Melbourne store mooted
The Bayswater North complex was earmarked for a Carl’s Jnr before a master franchisee for that business entered voluntary administration last July.
The Wendy’s building neighbours the long-time headquarters of air conditioning manufacturer Carrier, making way for a 61-unit business park.
Elsewhere in Melbourne, Flynn is understood to have committed to a large format retail hub beside Manor Lakes Central, being delivered by Ranfurlie Asset Management, the retail and commercial development arm of Dennis Family Homes.
That property is scheduled to be trading after December.
It opened Wendy’s first Australian restaurant, on Surfers Paradise’s Cavill Avenue, in January.
Wendy’s grows presence
More than 200 Wendy’s stores are expected in Australia by 2034.
A Brisbane outlet, promising to be a flagship, is scheduled next year.
Globally, there are more than 7000 restaurants.
The group is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio.
Other franchised Flynn’s brands operating in Australia include Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Planet Fitness.
It is also behind the Applebee’s Grill and Bar, which trades in, amongst other countries, Brazil, Canada, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.
Bayswater North is about 29 kilometres east of Melbourne’s CBD.
