Six storeys coming to gateway Bridge Road site

These four shops abutting a small park at the north east corner of Hoddle Street and Bridge Road will be razed for The Island.

A prominent island site – also a gateway to Richmond’s Bridge Road retail strip – is set to be replaced with a six storey apartment building.

The Island, as the project has been branded, will include 10 dwellings – three of them spreading a full floor; the priciest asking just over $5 million.

It will also contain two commercial spaces – a total area of about 90 square metres  – and a basement which, with stackers, can park 20 cars.

Volume Projects’ development is earmarked to replace four single storey shops covering a 410 sqm holding, 23-29 Bridge Road, about 1.5 kilometres east of Melbourne’s CBD.

The block has frontage to Moorhouse Street, a laneway and a small park abutting Hoddle Street.

Elsewhere in the city Volume Projects it is marketing a townhouse development at 81 Bridge Road, Port Melbourne.

It is also completing the construction of a five-storey Malvern East apartment complex at 1009 Dandenong Road, at the north east corner of Warley Road.
