The proposed tower at 695-699 La Trobe Street.

Salta Properties is ready to develop a spectacularly located Docklands site held 17 years.

A 2010 scheme for 695-699 La Trobe Steet, also penned by Fender Katsalidis.

The group has just won permission to replace 695-699 La Trobe Street with a 37 level build to rent investment with 554 dwellings – 26 allocated for affordable housing.

Co-work areas also form part of the design.

Opposite Victoria Harbour, beside Marvel Stadium, the project will be delivered under the company’s Est brand.

Salta acquired the 2693 square metre site at the south east corner of Harbour Esplanade for $12m in late 2008.

It is also behind a BTR project at Fitzroy – completed in 2024 – while another is planned near Victoria Gardens, in Richmond, one of 12 towers to be delivered with Vicinity, part of a $900m development.

Plan for waterfront site stepped up

Penned by Fender Katsalidis, the proposed La Trobe St complex will contain two interlocked towers over a multi-level podium (continues below).

One of two BTR investments Local is planning at Docklands, in Haig Street.

The permit comes more than a decade since Salta was refused permission to replace the site with a 36 level apartment tower.

Lendlease and Nippon’s proposed BTR tower at 889 Bourke Street.

A 19 storey complex was approved just before COVID.

Elsewhere in Docklands, Lendlease and Nippon are planning a BTR asset at 889 Colins St.

Macquarie backed Local also bought two sites for assets of this type last year.

At 111 Lorimer St, 391 dwellings are planned over 32 floors while 312 flats across 40 levels are planned at 65-71 Haig St, abutting the West Gate Freeway.
