Redfern Hotel sold after refurbishment

The Redfern Hotel was refurbished in 2017.

Marty Short has sold the Redfern Hotel after nine years and a refurbishment.

The publican’s Welcome Hospitality is banking more than $20 million, sources say, from an as yet undisclosed local family operator.

With partner Ben Shaw, he paid $6m.

At 106 George Street, on the north west corner of Redfern, with a bar and bistro, it was developed in 1853 as the Royal Albert Hotel then rebranded the Court House Hotel.

A refurbishment which included removing three retail tenants to expand the hospitality space, was completed 2017.

Mr Short and Mr Shaw bought Redfern’s Tudor Hall not long before the Redfern Hotel.

HTL Property’s Dan Dragicevich, Sam Handy and Andrew Jolliffe brokered the off-market sale.

Welcome’s portfolio also includes The Rocks’ Glenmore Hotel and, near Coffs Harbour, the Sawtell Hotel, Moonee Beach Hotel and Toormina Hotel.

It also recently seized the leasehold to North Sydney’s Billy Barry’s Hotel for $12m from long-time operator Keiran Bradley.
