Port Lincoln’s historic Boston House for sale after 44 years
The historic Boston House in South Australia’s Port Lincoln has hit the market for the first time in 44 years.
The State heritage listed Victorian residence at 41-57 Lincoln Highway, Boston, on the waterfront, made headlines just before it last sold, when a former owner, Adam Nestor, failed in his attempt to make the estate independent of Commonwealth rule.
According to this item on realestate.com.au, Boston House passed into the hands of a jeweller following a mortgagee sale.
That jeweller on-sold it a year later to the current vendors, Ron and Heather Campbell.
“He was really surprised that he got it but he didn’t know what to do with it, so he passed it on to Ron,” Ms Campbell said.
“We were looking for a larger home as we have three daughters and a son, and we needed something bigger for their education.
“It eventually became too big to just live in and we opened it up for accommodation, which was very successful.
“We also hosted many weddings and concerts there over the years, and we still have folk stinging in the cellar once a month”.
Built in 1885 as a retirement home for local Adelaide-based brewer Frederick Sison, Boston House became a hospital for three years after 1918, before being converted back into a private residence.
The dwelling includes nine bedrooms, four self-contained guest rooms, a parlour and billiards room The site spreads 4.9 hectares and includes original stables with cobble stoned floors.
