McDonald’s just bought a block of flats to expand Parkville’s Ronald McDonald House.

McDonald’s is coming back to Moonee Ponds after over three decades.

The group is refitting a 435 square metre ex-Bank of Melbourne branch at 34-36 Puckle Street vacated earlier this year.

The fast food restaurant’s last Puckle St store, at the corner of Mount Alexander Road, was said to be one of the few in its Melbourne portfolio to shut due to lack of trade.

Lygon Street, Carlton, was another, again in the 1990s – though this restaurant was the subject of a strong community boycott.

Leedwell’s Chris Parry and Nick Segran were the agents.

The deal comes within two years of other fast food chains opening in and around the strip, Guzman Y Gomez and Zambrero amongst them (continues below).

Brunetti Classico also opened a cafe as part of the Penny Lane mixed-use complex, with a Palace cinema.

McDonald’s is negotiating to open an outlet in High St, Northcote, shortly.

The restaurant recently reopened its city flagship store after its nearby ex-premises was compulsorily acquired for the Metro Rail project.

It also recently settled on the purchase of a block of flats to expand Ronald McDonald House in Parkville.
