Mazen Tabet buys another Melbourne boutique hotel
Mazen Tabet has quietly acquired one of Melbourne’s most luxurious boutique hotels – paying $1.67 million per suite.

The freehold to 157-159 Domain Road, South Yarra, trading as United Places, was bought from the developer, Darren Rubenstein, for $20m.
The leasehold cost another $5m.
Opposite the Botanic Gardens the hotel rises four floors with 12 rooms, with one or two bedrooms, between 49-70 square metres, with a balcony or courtyard.
Suites rent from $550 a night.
Completed nine years ago the asset also contains a ground floor restaurant – part of the Domain Rd retail strip.
United Places Domain Road
Penned by Sue Carr, the project, developed by Mr Rubenstein’s DBR Property, was the first in the United Places brand – a ‘home-hotel’ concept emphasising privacy and long-stay accommodation (continues below).
It is internationally regarded as one of Australia’s most sophisticated small luxury hotels according to Rigby Cooke Lawyers which represented Tabet Group for the off-market purchase.
Elsewhere in the suburb, Mr Tabet owns The Lyall Hotel – which cost $30.5m following another off-market deal, in 2022.
That property contains 49 rooms.
In late 2024, the investor acquired the freehold going concern to the city’s Adelphi while in 2021, he bought St Kilda’s renovated Village Belle and a neighbouring new apartment complex, for $31m.
The Royce on St Kilda Rd – recently reopened after a swank renovation – also forms part of the Tabet Group portfolio.
That venue cost $55m from the Bursztyn family in 2017.
