Huge Docklands Nightclub Approved by Vic Planning Minister Justin Madden

Melbourne City Council planning committee chair Cr Peter Clarke told the Herald Sun there are about 65 substantial liquor licences in Docklands already, and that this is increasing at a rate of “two or three a month”.

Mr Clarke joined a growing number of councillors saying the council has no power to appeal decisions made by Mr Madden, who became ALP Minister after a popular career as a Carlton footballer.

Cr Clarke said the government was hypocritical, saying on the one hand it will crack down on city violence, while continuing to endorse large drinking bars.

He also raised concerns that the minister responsible for development at Docklands, was also in charge of liquor permits.

Mr Madden’s nightclub approval comes as the State government faces routine alcohol and drug fuelled violent and fatal attacks in Melbourne’s inner-city.
