Harvey Norman to build Southern Hemisphere’s biggest homemaker centre

A former Telstra supply branch at Springvale will make way for the Souther Hemisphere’s biggest homemaker centre.

The City of Greater Dandenong this week approved an amended planning application by Harvey Norman for the $300 million, 81,400 square metre complex.

At the corner of Princes Highway and Westall Road, it will contain a 30,000 sqm tenancy, pre-committed to IKEA.

Another 15 smaller tenancies, between 1000-4000 sqm are for lease.

Harvey Norman will fill a 13,000 sqm space.

Following the amendment, the number of car parks will increase from 1800 to 3000.

Construction is set to start next year – after site remediation.

It should be open for trade by 2011.

Harvey Norman paid $14.6m for the eight hectare site making way for the project, in 2004.

That vendor, Folkestone, paid $10m eight months earlier.
