GPT Announces New Building For Pyrmont, Sydney
workplace6 has met this high benchmark in new office development by employing world best practice in its design and construction to achieve the 6 Star Green Star rating. Tony Cope, GPT’s Head of Office, said the certified rating, which recognises world class leadership in sustainability, demonstrates GPT’s ability to deliver high quality product with environmental initiatives that are second to none.
“GPT is committed to achieving the highest possible environmental rating for all our office developments, and the certification of a 6 Star Green Star at workplace6 acknowledges this commitment and GPT’s position as a leader in environmental design and development,” Mr Cope said.
The design and construction of workplace6, being undertaken by Buildcorp Australia, commenced in March 2007 and at that time was New South Wales’ first speculative commercial building aiming for a 6 Star Green Star certified rating and is also the first to be awarded the rating by the Green Building Council of Australia.

To achieve the 6 Star Green Star rating, workplace6 implemented a footprint that allows natural light penetration across internal work spaces via an atrium; solar devices to building facades, operable windows for natural ventilation and improved air quality; chilled beam cooling; harbour heat exchange for cooling in lieu of traditional cooling towers, and grey and black water recycling. In addition, 25% GreenPower will be provided to the building, along with premium amenities for tenants such as showers and change rooms with lockers, 135 secure car spaces and 120 bicycle racks.
Romily Madew, CEO of the Green Building Council of Australia said it is great to see a world leading sustainable building in the Sydney CBD.
“The Green Building Council of Australia is pleased to award the first 6 Star Green Star – Office Design rating in Sydney to workplace6. The GPT Group and Citta Property Group have shown leadership and commitment to sustainable building by achieving this Green Star certified rating. The Green Building Council of Australia looks forward to more of the same given the GPT Group are one of the first ten signatories of the Green Star Business Partnership. Through this partnership, GPT has committed to achieving a minimum Green Star rating for all new office accommodation they own or occupy,” Ms Madew said.
workplace6 is due for completion in late 2008.
