Federal Government Shelves $8000 Solar Roof Panel Rebate Early

Mr Garrett said the government will put away $271 million in the May budget to fund a replacement rebate scheme, however The Age reports that money might already be consumed by the more than 30,000 people who have lodged applications for solar panels in the last month.

A new federal government proposal will see households offered credits toward the cost of a $12,500 environmentally sustainable 1-kilowatt electrical system. Credits will not be means tested and are expected to start at about $4,000 and eventually whittle down to $800.

“There are currently more than 63,000 solar installations in the pipeline, including rebates either pre-approved or applications received,” Mr Garrett told the AFR. “We now have a situation where there is a year’s worth of solar panel installations out there, waiting to be undertaken.”
