Equity Chambers Building, CBD, to be Redeveloped Into High Rise Apartments

THE owners of the historic Equity Chambers building at 472 – 478 Bourke Street have lodged plans to build a major apartment tower on the site.

The residential redevelopment, apartments of which are already being marketed for sale, won’t see the building’s front facade change. But airspace at the side and back of the building, which is on the north-eastern corner of Little Queen Street, will make way for a 16-level tower.

Melbourne City Council said it is considering the application. The owners, local private investors, are reported to have paid $14.75 million for the building in 2007. Castran Gilbert’s Mark Forytarz is marketing the apartments.
