Avive chooses site for maiden SA hospital

Avive Mornington Peninsula has 60 beds.

Australia’s only psychiatrist owned and operated mental health group, Avive Health, has pre-committed to a 60 bed private hospital – its first in South Australia.

The five level complex (artist’s impression, top) will be developed by Pelligra on Wakefield Street beside the ex-Calvary Hospital, which it bought in late 2020 and refurbished.

Adopting salutogenic design principles with circadian lighting and wellness focused amenities, with a TechnoGym equipped gym and day program therapy space, construction is set to start October and take 18 months.

“Programs will address mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, and substance use across inpatient, day and outpatient pathways,” a spokesperson for the operator said.

Avive comes to Adelaide

Pelligra has previously committed Breast Screen SA and a swag of private health professionals to the ex-Calvary site, covering 272-300 Wakefield St.

CBRE’s Marcello Caspani-Mito, Sandro Peluso and Jimmy Tat are the agents.

The proposed building will be Avive’s third hospital of this type – it also has a 63 bed facility in Brisbane’s Windsor and 60-bed complex on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.

“Avive’s model integrates holistic recovery planning into each patient journey, with tailored discharge plans developed by interdisciplinary teams,” a representative said

“These plans incorporate dietitian-guided nutrition, exercise physiology, and sleep hygiene strategies to sustain recovery,” they added.
