Apartment Tower Planned For Behind Melbourne High School

Sources this week told Secret Agent an amendment is being proposed for the Minister for Planning, which would see the area known as Forrest Hill – between Chapel Street, Toorak Road, the Yarra River and the train line – limited by a lower height restriction.

Residents are hoping this amendment will prevent the development of the Lamborghini dealership site, which is itself dwarfed by cranes of neighbouring high-rise developments on the other side of the road, including Mirvac’s SY21.

The problem, according to one protesting resident, is the site location on the eastern border of Melbourne High School. Though any new building would offer panoramic views to the CBD, it would also allow a bird’s eye view over the Melbourne High School Oval.

The controversial Melbourne 2030 policy encourages high density development around existing transit nodes and retail amenity, and was created in an attempt to accommodate a population splurge of more than a million people over the next 20 years.

The matter is expected to wind up before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal later this year.
