Triangular in shape, Airport is West is bound by the Calder Freeway, Western Ring Road, the Tullamarine Freeway. It is also wedged between the Melbourne (Tullamarine) Airport, and the Essendon Airport – which is slowly being redeveloped by private investor Lindsay Fox.’

It shares the same postcode (3042) as Niddrie and Keilor Park.

Airport West is a working class suburb, though its relatively close proximity to the CBD, and the road and rail network, has seen prices surge in price for the better part of this decade as young professionals move in.

Most residents do their shopping in Keilor Road Niddrie or at the Westfield Airport West on Matthews Avenue.

Airport West is accessed via the number 59 tram, which takes off from Elizabeth Street.

According to Australian Property Monitors, the median price for a house in Airport West in the 12 months to December 2007 is $371,300.

Homes in abundance in Airport West include 1930s weatherboards, and 1970s single-level family homes, largely in cream or orange brick. It has been quite common for homes to be subdivided and turned into villa units, particularly in the streets off Keilor Road.
