Maling Road Post Office repurposed
The former Maling Road Post Office, in Melbourne’s leafy east Canterbury, has been repurposed.
The c1908 building at the south west corner of Canterbury Rd, near Canterbury station, just reopened as a Sri Lanken restaurant, The Havelock Place.
It operated as a post office until the mid-1990s before being adapted for retail and hospitality uses.
Recently it has been configured as a multi-tenanted investment with a café and service-based occupiers.
The property last sold in December, 2017, for $8.45 million.
Australia Post offloaded it in mid-2016, banking $7.365m.
Canterbury is about 11 kilometres from town (continues below).
Next chapter for historic building
Spanning 932 square metres, with a street address of 206 Canterbury Rd, the Canterbury property contains 790 sqm at the edge of a small, popular retail strip.
The Minogue family previously owned investments in the pocket.
The last significant development was in 2019 when the former Bradshaw’s garage – which sold in 2010 – was replaced with apartments over ground floor retail.
