Apartments set for Gladesville shopping centre, surrounds
Third I will replace the tired Gladesville Shopping Centre and sites around it – all up 1.4 hectares – with a residential based mixed use village expected to carry a c$1 billion end value.
The group this week revealed itself as the developer to last month lodge an application to replace the parcels with multiple towers, the tallest, 19 levels.
Covering 1-3 Flagstaff Street, 2-10 Cowell Street, 1 Massey Street and a block of Victoria Road, the amalgamation is one of 11 identified by the Hunters Hill LGA in its municipality appropriate for high density housing.
If approved, Third I will fund infrastructure upgrades, including new pedestrian connections, landscaped public domains, and civic amenities.
Construction would also begin in late 2026.
“The proposal directly responds to the Council’s Local Strategic Planning Statement (2020), which identifies Gladesville Village as a centre primed for place-based redevelopment,” Third I head of Acquisitions, Florian Callion, said.
Stonebridge’s Lincoln Blackledge sold the property.
Site set for redevelopment
The Gladesville property was marketed for its potential to accommodate 37,250 square metres in multiple high rise towers.
Third I is planning over 500 apartments – a mix of build to rent and build to sell.
A 4000 sqm supermarket, food and beverage precinct and medical centre also forms part of the iC2 design.
Some 450 sqm of open space meanwhile will be landscaped by Arcadia.
“This will be the first project of its kind for Gladesville, an integrated masterplan that not only responds to its surroundings but significantly improves upon the existing local planning controls,” a Third I representative said.
“A continuous green spine stretching from Massey St to Cowell St forms the centrepiece of the design, offering pedestrian friendly access and clear sightlines throughout the site,” they added.
“The result will be a connected town centre with a truly civic heart,” according to the spokesperson.
Gladesville is about 10 kilometres north west of Sydney’s CBD.
