Whyalla’s Beach Hotel sold, set for refurbishment

The Beach Hotel will be refurbished.

A popular Whyalla foreshore pub and guesthouse will be refurbished after selling to Lofty Property Group.

The Whyalla site spans 4983 square metres.

The Beach Hotel was offered by KordaMentha as receiver for the Whyalla Steelworks, which the state government seized control of last February.

The sale price was $3.85 million.

There were 25 expressions of interest, Colliers’ Jordan Schmidt, who brokered the deal with Alistair Mackie, said.

Lofty is Adelaide-based.

Next chapter for Beach Hotel

On 4983 square metres with beach access, the Beach Hotel at 12 Watson Terrace contains a pool and parking (continues below).

The 1164 sqm building includes 40 accommodation suites – each with amenities – a restaurant with private and alfresco dining spaces, commercial kitchen, bar and conference rooms.

With a manager’s apartment too, it was offered on a walk-in, walk-out basis.

The site was also marketed for its potential to yield a different product.

Whyalla Steelworks, previously controlled by Sanjeev Gupta, paid $4.7m in late 2023.

The area is about 380 kilometres north of Adelaide’s CBD.
