Where do Australian Open Stars Stay in Melbourne?

Whereas in the 1990s, tennis greats such as Andre Agassi, Stefan Edberg and Steffi Graf would lease homes in Elwood, Toorak or Brighton for the grand slam tournament – today’s tennis stars are opting for hotels in town.

Reigning mens single champ Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova, Vanessa and Serena Williams all head to the glitter of Crown Casino, according to reports, while others such as Amelie Mauresmo have set up shop at the Como hotel in South Yarra.

“Nowadays, wealthy home owners just don’t need the money so prefer not to take the risk of letting an entourage stay at their home,” said one leasing agent source who wished to remain anonymous. “Also, most top tennis players nowadays are single, or do not travel with family, so they prefer penthouse city apartments to a home on land with a pool and tennis court”.
