VCAT to Decide High Rise Prahran Apartment Tower

A Stonnington Council spokesman told Secret Agent the proposed development is inappropriate for the former RVIB site, on the corner of Charles Street, which is one-way south of Greville Street. He added the project doesn’t comply with council’s planning scheme, or neighbourhood character.

But the proposal does submit to the Rudd government’s plan to boost the number of affordable and social houses around the country by 80,000 by 2012 – an initiative which is increasingly resulting in social and affordable housing apartments being included in many new proposals.

According to documents lodged with council, the High Street development will include about 40 affordable housing units, which will most likely be managed by the Port Phillip Housing Co-operative, if the development proceeds.
