Uniting Church of Australia to Sell Prominent Church

It is selling its prominent Williamstown church and neighbouring 1450-square-metre development site, nestled behind the Douglas Parade shopping strip and abutting a car park with access to the Ferguson Street retail strip.

Jas S. Stephens director Craig Stephens says interest has already come from people wanting to develop the space into boutique offices, a restaurant, cafe or child-care centre. He expects the church to fetch between $1 million and $1.5 million after an expression-of-interest campaign closing next month.

In April, the Catholic Church sold the St Macartan’s Primary School in Mornington to residential developer Gilpip Homes for about $10 million. The school occupied a prime position overlooking Port Phillip Bay.

Students will relocate next year to a new St Macartan’s built inland.
