UDIA calls for everyone to get grant

The Urban Development Institute of Australia has called for all new home buyers to receive the $14,000 government grant.

At the moment, the perk is limited to first time buyers of established homes.

It rises to $21,000 for a newly built dwelling.

As well as reviving the sector and creating jobs, the lobby group said expanding the grant could increase supply, pointing to the federal government research suggesting the country will be short c80,000 homes a year to keep up with demand.

The First Home Owners Grant is set to expire on June 30.
