The Langs Road home, opposite the northern boundary of the Flemington Racecourse and near the Flemington suburb border, is on a super-sized 1020 square metre block, and includes a historic large home with postcard Melbourne CBD skyline views.

It is not known whether the new owner will restore the salmon pink home, or replace it with a newer home.  According to the Herald Sun, about $600,000 from the sale will be confiscated under the proceeds-of-crime laws.

Measuring 1049 square metres, the block is large by inner-city standards, and is being marketed as a residential development site. Apartments within any new project would capture unobstructed city views over the racecourse. Nelson Alexander Ascot Vale’s Andrew Johnston will auction 14 Leonard Crescent at midday, May 14, when it’s expected to sell for between $1.2 and $1.3 million.

Developer Bensons Property Group has started marketing the last stage of its Travancore on the Park project, a $395 million village being developed on the former Lombard Paper factory site in Mount Alexander Road, which was destroyed by fire in late 2004.

Police were called to the Ormond Road house at about 11pm last night, and just hours after Ms Moran was charged as an accessory for the murder of brother in law Des Moran, in the nearby Union Road shopping strip.

Neighbours reported hearing several gunshot-sounding explosions at Ms Moran's Ascot Vale house at about 10:45pm, before fire engulfed the front of the 1930s brick property.

]]> The Ascot Vale home of underworld matriarch Judy Moran was fire-damaged last night.

Police were called to the Ormond Road dwelling about 11pm, hours after she was charged an accessory for the murder of brother-in-law Des Moran, at the nearby Union Rd shopping strip.

Neighbours reported hearing gunshots and explosions at about 10:45pm before it was engulfed.

The brick property was constructed in the 1930s and has been held by the Moran family 32 years.

A mortgage was on May 26 taken out against it (story continues below).

Last year it was listed for sale seeking $1 million; Ms Moran saying she anticipated a move to Queensland.

Des lived on a Langs Rd, Ascot Vale, home on a substantial double block overlooking Melbourne Showgrounds, estimated to be worth more than $1.5m and reportedly now 40 per cent controlled by the commonwealth government.

Ms Moran was arrested walking home after dropping off gloves and the blue Ford Fairlane which was the getaway car for his murder, in nearby Mincha Street, Brunswick West.

]]> The Showgrounds Village Shopping Centre in Ascot Vale will be located on Epsom Road, north-west of the Melbourne CBD. It will include a Coles supermarket, 1st Choice Liquor superstore, 30 retail spaces ranging in size from 50 square metres to 600 square metres, and a not-for-profit child care centre able to accommodate up to 120 children.

The heritage listed Woodfull Pavilion, originally used as a dog judging facility about 100 years ago and part of the former Melbourne Showgrounds site, will be retained as part of the commercial development.

Coles Group general manager Tim Boyce says some of the 30 retail spaces have already been leased.

Mr Boyce expects the tenancy mix to include food retailers, a family restaurant, bank, pharmacy, medical centre and convenience shopping retailing.

The restored Woodfull Pavilion will provide a new streetscape for Epsom Road, which is a busy road connecting Racecourse and Maribyrnong roads.

Real estate agency Retail Advantage is handling the retail leasing for Showgrounds Village, which is due for completion in April next year.

According to the Property Council of Australia, a neighbourhood shopping centre is defined as a local shopping centre comprising a supermarket, and approximately 35 specialty shops with a total gross lettable area of less than 10,000 square metres.

It was almost four years ago the State Government announced a $146 million redevelopment of the Melbourne Showgrounds, which saw the amount of public space reduced from 27 hectares to 18 hectares.

The amount of commercial and retail space to service the inner north-western suburbs has been increased.

PPP Solutions, a consortium of financier Babcock and Brown, Multiplex Constructions, Spotless Services, Multiplex Facilities Management and Daryl Jackson Architect, redeveloped the Melbourne Showgrounds site.
